Spring Bathroom Renovation Plans

February 22

With Spring only a couple of months away, many of us are eagerly awaiting the change in season.  The warmer weather opens the door to new home projects to complete. Perhaps, even ones that you have been waiting all year to do.  Is your washroom at the top of your priority list? It’s at the top of ours, too! Here are some of the best Spring bathroom renovation plans to get underway.

Spring Cleaning

“Cleaning?  That has nothing to do with renovating!”  Well, you may be surprised!  One of the first things we suggest is to give the area in question a deep clean.  This way, areas you may not have even thought about may be brought to your attention.

For example, you may notice grout that needs a touch-up regardless of what other projects are done.  We wouldn’t want a leak or other moisture damage to worsen a problem area.  Or, perhaps as you progress, you’ll be reminded of the areas that are difficult to clean due to their material.  For example, we may love the look of white ceramic flooring. Sadly, this can shine a spotlight on any existing specks of dirt.  For this reason, a different color may be a better option.

Windows

While no season is technically better than the other for updating window treatments, Spring offers the perfect weather conditions to do so.  The cold and wet Winter weather may have taken a toll on the bathroom windows.  So, before the Spring’s rainfall potentially causes even more damage, take a look at their overall condition.

Is the caulking cracked?  Has it started to shrink and/or has it become stretched or have a thinner appearance in some spots?  If so, it’s a good idea to replace the caulking or invest in new windows if they require replacement.  This will help to retain heat and limit further wear and tear. Thus, preventing what could lead to bigger issues and renovations down the line.

Flooring

Due to the amount of traffic in washrooms, the flooring may be one of the biggest priorities of the renovation.  Vinyl and linoleum are the most common contenders for washrooms. They are easy to install and clean, all the while offering a budget-friendly option.  They are also waterproof and stainproof which are important qualities for anything installed in a bathroom.

If vinyl and linoleum aren’t quite what you’re looking for, ceramic tiles are another great option.  Ceramic tiles come in an expansive array of colors and patterns. They are easily incorporated into any form of decor.  (Just be sure to remember what we said about white ceramic earlier!)

Another thing to consider is whether or not you will ever entertain the idea of having heated flooring.  Without question, this offers obvious perks. However, it will also affect the materials that can be used for the flooring. Unfortunately, not all options are conducive to heat. It is best to speak to your chosen professional to ask for their recommendations.  This will ensure that all the needs are met for a cohesive, functional, and long-lasting space.

Countertops

We saved some of the most eye-catching parts of the room for last- the bathroom countertops and storage spaces!  While their appearance is a concern, the first thing to consider is their functionality.  Adding custom cabinets adds even more storage to a room that may be lacking in space.  This is a top priority if many people are sharing the space or if you simply love your self-care products!

With the addition of sturdy countertops, you can be sure that they will be as impressive as they are functional.  Quartz and granite countertops are among the best options for a bathroom. They are durable and can resist stains, scratches, and heat. This makes them perfectly protected from the aforementioned self-care products that may be used.
